How Console Gaming Has Tainted PC Gaming For The Past Several Years

Let me preface this by saying – I have nothing wrong with the video game consoles, and the below opinion is just that of GATT’s GamerX. That being said, I am personally a PC gamer, and damn proud of it. I have been a PC gamer since the age of seven, and I never looked back. I upgrade my hardware at least once a year to keep current with the computer market. However, lately, gaming on my computer just hasn’t been the same.I own both console systems, and play them regularly as they are convenient, however when a AAA title comes out for every major platform including PC, I expect the PC version to be better than the console versions because of better hardware. This was the case all through-out the 1990s and 200X years, however recently the trend has begun to reverse. Now instead of PC’s getting better quality and better looking games the reverse is happening. Consoles are getting games that look amazing, and then the PC gets the console version of the game, in it’s full Direct X9 glory...........Read the rest hereDiscuss here

For those less informed...Map pack 4 is already released for consoles and will be released for PC at around 16:00 (GMT+2). Alright Ladies and Gentlemen! New Map pack 4 is out so my suggestion is you turn on your machines, download it from the in-game store and get right into the action! Atacama Desert Rush mode - A Russian Naval Group is preparing a massive amphibious assault. Defending the shore are 3 U.S fortifications and a string of artillery defenses. Deteriorating weather and sandstorms, U.S. Command has consolidated all available forces to meet the Russian threat. Port Valdez Conquest mode - Russian Forces are poised to attack the harbor in an attempt to seize the Trans Alaskan Pipeline. No fallback exists for either side, this engagement will decide the outcome of the war.The map pack is available with a VIP code, which is included in every new copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. A VIP code can also be purchased via the in-game store. PC users will not need a VIP code and will receive the new map pack via an in-game patch.

http://www.callofduty.com/blackops/?path=blackops/According reportedly leaked information from 'undisclosed Activisions sources', the PC version of Call Of Duty 7 will be getting dedicated servers. The lack of dedicated servers in last year's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 upset a small army of PC gamers.According to Tek9's source, 'Call of Duty 7: Black Ops' will also feature the popular zombie mode from predecessor CoD: World At War, in which players get to shoot down hordes of the undead. The site adds: 'Last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers and mor features for clans."Again, we'll check in with Activision to see what the publisher says...[Submitted by foxxhound]

Disclaimer: If this offends you, theny ou clearly aren't excited enough by news Researchers have shown off a transistor made from just seven atoms that could be used to create smaller, more powerful computers.Transistors are tiny switches used as the building blocks of silicon chips. If the new atomic transistor can be made in large numbers it could mean chips with components up to 100 times smaller than on existing processors. The Australian creators of the transistor hope it is also a step towards a solid-state quantum computer.[ image disabled ]Fig 1: What a quantum computer really looks like! The transistor is not the smallest ever created as two research groups have previously managed to produce working single-atom transistors. However, the device is many times smaller than the components found in chips in contemporary computers. On chips where components are 22 nanometres in size, transistor gates are about 42 atoms across. The working transistor was created by replacing seven atoms in a silicon crystal with phosphorus atoms."Now we have just demonstrated the world's first electronic device in silicon systematically created on the scale of individual atoms," said Professor Michelle Simmons, lead researcher on the project at the University of New South Wales.Moore's Law predicts that the amount of memory that can fit on a given area of silicon, for a fixed cost doubles every 12-18 months. The limit of this prediction is being tested as components get ever smaller and their computationally useful properties become less reliable. If an entire chip could be made with every one of its billions of transistors made from the silicon crystals, it could mean an "exponential" leap in processing power, said Professor Simmons. The researchers are a long way from a commercial process because the tiny transistor they created was handmade. The team used a scanning tunnelling microscope to move the phosphorus atoms into place.[ image disabled ]Fig 2: The expected effects of such awesome computational power on the human body. You won't be playing Mafia Wars on this thing bitches...The work on the tiny transistor is being carried out as part of a larger project to create a quantum computer. The research team revealed their results in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.Source BBC News : [Submitted by RealPurgatory]

[ image disabled ]The first game add-on for Left 4 Dead 2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.The Passing also introduces a series of weekly game mode events dubbed "Mutations." These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from "Realism Versus" mode to "Chainsaw Massacre," which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of "The Passing" DLC.In addition, "The Passing" offers a new co-operative challenge mode of play, support for infected bot play in Versus, a new "uncommon common" zombie class (the fallen survivor), melee weapon (golf club), and firearm (M-60).Available for 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and free on the PC, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.Exclusively available for Xbox 360 and the PC, L4D2 sets a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more. With the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played. Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge. To celebrate the launch of "The Passing" DLC this Thursday Valve employees will be playing on the PC between 11am-5pm PDT and then on the 360 from 7pm-11pm PDT using special accounts.
